Containers should never sit on the ground! Whether you are setting them down before loading onto ships or setting them down as storage containers, you will need to plan it out. This off the ground approach improves airflow under the container. If you put the container directly on the ground, it could cause moisture seepage and rust! So, it is best to plan out the siting of your containers properly.
Shipping containers for sale at Port Shipping Containers are just some of the high-grade containers available in Australia. But, you will never be able to enjoy the perks of such a container if you do not set them up properly. You could even end up ruining the containers (of course in the long run) and perhaps the content too. Do you have any idea about what needs to be done? No? Then, let’s start the journey of siting the containers.
What are the Materials that can be used for Siting the Containers?
You cannot use just about any handy material for sitting down the containers. The wrong material can ruin your container altogether. These containers are strong, heavy-weight and large! So, you need to find the right sitting material for shipping containers. Here are some options for the siting material:
- Pine Sleepers
- Solid Concrete Blocks
- Old Car Tyres
Talk to the specialists delivering the container; and pick the best one for your container! But, the more popular options among the three are the concrete blocks and the pine sleepers.
How can you get the Containers up on Blocks?
Whether you are using concrete blocks or pine sleepers, you will need to set them up below the containers. You can do it either during delivery or post it! So, here is how you can set up the containers on different kinds of blocks (wood and concrete):
-
During Delivery of Containers:
The containers will either be delivered in a tilt tray or side loader. These vehicles will help position the containers over the blocks and set them down properly. If it is a side loader, place the blocks before the truck appears. Once the truck appears, set it beside the blocks and set down the container on the blocks. If the truck is a tilt tray variety, then you will have to wait for the truck to position itself above the setting area of the containers. Once the container is positioned properly, you can place the blocks as the truck starts to leave. How can this happen? Well, it is fairly simple! The driver can adjust the tray to keep the container lifted, till the blocks are in position.
-
After Delivery:
Were we too late? You had the containers delivered? Well, still this is possible! But, obviously, it is a bit more difficult! Now, you can be facing two situations:
The Container is Empty:
Well, if the container has not been loaded, then a hhigh-gradeforklift could help you out! The Tyne acts as a wedge, while you fit in the blocks. Once the block has been placed, tilt backwards and the weight comes off the Tyne, now you can move out. Another method used for containers on dirt or grass is, using a long metal pipe! Use the pipe as a lever (along with a big block of metal or concrete) for lifting the container off the ground. Another alternative is to use a heavy duty car jack or hydraulic jack.
The Container is loaded:
The task obviously becomes much tougher. All the options listed above can be used, but you will need more power. Sometimes none of these methods will work! In that case, you will have to either pray to God, that your containers do not fall prey to rust over time. Or, you could unload, place the blocks and load the containers again!
You will need to set the containers on blocks, or risk losing its integrity over time! The risk is not worth your resources. You need to understand the importance of siting the containers on blocks to enjoy a successful storage or/and shipping business!
